Earth Wind Map

Beautiful and fascinating interactive visualisation of the world's wind conditions. The Earth Wind Map, designed by software engineer Cameron Beccario, gathers data from the Global Forecast System at the National Center for Environmental Prediction and turns it into a swirling neon globe.

The map is interactive so you can click and drag the globe, zoom in and out. After a few seconds the data will appear. Different colours depict varying windspeeds. Gentle breezes are thin green strands, strong winds are long yellow streaks and the strongest current are presented in red.
